Throw A Fundraiser To Raise Cash

If your organization needs money, throwing a fundraiser is a common and effective way to raise the extra money. Just about anywhere you look it is likely that you can find some sort of fundraising activity.

Having a fundraiser can vary quite a bit in terms of complexity. Some methods are very easy to organize and execute while other methods might take months and involve hiring professional fundraising specialists.

Depending on your cause and how well you or your group is known, raising money can prove to be relatively easy or it may be very challenging.

As patriotic and well loved as the day is long. This type of money raising event requires its participants to bring a baked good is sold for profit.

These profits are then collected and used to further whatever causes the organization specifies in its charter. Maybe the school needs to replace the equipment on its playground or wants to add a computer lab or needs new equipment in their science lab. Really, there are as many reasons for having a fundraiser as there are ways of raising
money for your cause.

Another popular way to raise money is to send out a fundraising letter. Also called a direct mail letter or DM piece for short. This letter will introduce people to your cause and describe in detail why they should donate their money. It will need to be persuasive since you will not be there in person to ask for the donation yourself. On the surface it might appear easy to write one but remember that getting people to open their wallets and purses is no easy task. This reality will become very clear once you sit down to actually write it. (We will go into the mechanics of writing an effective letter in other articles.)

Some of the bigger organizations will buy time on national television and conduct a telethon.  They provide some type of entertainment while at the same time encouraging viewers to call in to a specified number in order to donate to the cause.  This type of method greatly relies on the volunteering of celebrities and comedians that will attract attention to the cause.  As it is expensive to hold this type of fundraiser it is generally only a method that larger groups are able to take advantage of. Think about it for a second, how many celebrities do you know and can pick up the phone and call?

Holding a charity dinner is another great idea for a fundraiser.  There is usually a performance that will help get people through the door and money into the coffers.  Each person that attends the dinner  pays  a fee in order to attend.  This money is then collected and used to further charity objectives.
